About Me

Being at ease is living a life free of pain and discomfort.

All About Me

As a Therapist and Counsellor

For more than 25 years, I have been helping people achieve optimal mental health by overcoming feelings of pain and discomfort.  My clients are adults experiencing today’s most common challenges, including stress, anxiety, panic, depression and burnout.

My counselling experience is broad.  Throughout my career, I have collaborated with physicians, insurance companies, employers, provincial and national colleges and associations, support workers and schools.  I am fluently bilingual, providing counselling and therapy services in both English and French to clients residing throughout Ontario.  I have also provided consulting services to corporations and associations operating across Canada.

My Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is person-centered.  Specifically, this means that I treat every client as an individual, according to his or her unique needs, perceptions, emotions, thoughts and physiological symptoms.  To accomplish this, I incorporate counselling techniques from several different areas, including:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Somatic Psychotherapy
  • Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Attachment-based Psychotherapy

Application of Techniques

I employ these techniques in two distinct ways.  One way, the traditional approach to counselling, teaches clients strategies to change the way they think, and by doing so, change the way they feel.  While this approach is effective, remembering and applying thinking strategies while feeling intense stress, anxiety and panic, and while experiencing intrusive thoughts, can be difficult.  Therefore, I also employ a more modern approach to counselling, one that teaches clients to focus on the mind and body sensations that are triggering the uncomfortable feelings and thoughts.  Clients can re-program how their mind and body respond to the situations (usually related to deeply stored memories) that bring about the uncomfortable feelings and thoughts.  Breaking the link between mind and body response to situations/memories is the key to managing the uncomfortable feelings and thoughts.

I also explore each client’s lifestyle, including nutrition, physical exercise, sleep patterns, and relaxation behaviours.  I compile all of this data to develop an individualized holistic program for achieving long-lasting, positive change.

Always providing a safe and accepting environment, I offer all counselling services in English and French.
